What We Do - Emergency
Erratic weather events in some parts of the country, which often cause flooding and droughts, exacerbate the vulnerability of millions Ethiopians.

Between 2012 and 2013, the Italian Development Cooperation has been implementing a post-emergency assistance program (for an amount of 1.3 million euros) in the areas of Ethiopia that have been hit by the drought of the summer 2011.

Following its first phase implemented in 2011, this second phase of the program has contributed to improve the quality of life of the local communities and to help them to strengthen their capacity to face future crises.A particular attention is given to risk reduction and emergency prevention in three sectors: WASH, environmental hygiene, and health.

The project has been realized in those areas in south and south-east of Ethiopia affected by refugee flows from neighboring countries and where local populations and refugees are hit by a chronic shortage of potable water and adequate sanitation facilities.

CCM, CVM / CIAI, COOPI, LVIA and CISS / PROGETTO CONTINENTI are the Italian NGOs that will implement the interventions. They have all been present in the Country for many years and gained a deep experience in the WASH and health sectors.
