Italy supports UNHCR and ICRC for humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia

The General Directorate for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved two financial contributions to international organizations in Ethiopia, overall amounting to 1,3 million Euros, with the aim of assisting local vulnerable communities and refugees in the Country.

In detail, a 500,000.00 Euros contribution has been channeled through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for the provision of protection and assistance to Somali refugees, in response to the “UNHCR Global Appeal 2010-2011”. Main objective is to assist the Ethiopian governamental agency ARRA and UNHCR in the management of the transit and refugees camps set up in Shedder, Aw-Barre and Dollo-Ado (Somali Region). Planned activities include provision of health care and primary education, gender-based violence prevention and improvement of refugees’ registration procedures.  

Furthermore, a 800,000.00 Euros contribution was made to the International Committee of Red Cross in Ethiopia (ICRC), for the implementation of its initiatives in favour of Internally Displaced People (IDC), people with disabilities and vulnerable groups all over the Country.
